Chip grew up in Texas and moved out to California on a college wrestling scholarship. His first week at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, he discovered people could get a degree in winemaking. He spent the next 5 years studying wine and apprenticing every harvest under a different winemaker.

All the while he was stealing grapes from vineyards and making wine in trashcans sell to the kids in the dorms. He finally graduated in 2009 and started his first winery, making one wine called Sexual Chocolate. He grew the winery and sold it in 2012.  In 2013 he started Rebel Coast Winery, and in 2018 started making and selling the world’s first cannabis-infused Sauvignon Blanc.
